A hall 8mx16m is provided with a RCC slab over rolled steel beams spaced 4m
centre to centre and 0.3m wide supports. Design the simply supported main beam
supporting concrete floor slab if thickness of concrete slab is 120mm and a
wearing coat of 50mm thick is provided over the slab. Weight of the concrete slab
and wearing coat is 25KN/m’.
Calculate the strength of a Single angle Strut of ISA 100x75x8mm connected to a
gusset plate of thickness 10mm by three bolts in same line. Length of member is
3m.

Answer any two full questions, each carries 20 marks.
How wind force on Roof Trusses are calculated.
Design an angle purlin on a sloping roof truss with the dead load of 0.15 KN/m’,
a live load of 2.5KN/m? and a wind load of 0.6KN/m? (suction). The purlins are
1.4m centre to centre and a span of 4m, supported on rafters at a slope of 23°.
Design a wooden beam of clear span 5m at spacing of 2.5m centre to centre in a
roof for a building. The bearing at each end is 300mm.The dead load of roof
covering is 2KN/m’ and live load is 3KN/m*. Assume that jack wood is in outside
location.
Explain briefly classification of timber
A roof truss shed is to be built in Chennai for an industry. The size of shed is
20mx8m.the height of building is 12m at the eaves. Determine the basic wind
pressure?

A timber beam of clear span 8m carries ೩ UDL of 16kKN/m including self-weight
