Do you think Indians are generally hostile towards persons with disabilities as shown in

the following passage ? State your responses to the facts given in the passage :

The Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities this morning concluded its
consideration of the initial report of India on its implementation of the provisions of the
Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, with Committee Experts raising
various issues, including violence against persons with disabilities in institutions, the
situation of ethnic and religious minorities with disabilities, and efforts to increase the

number of children with disabilities in inclusive and mainstream education.

Violence against persons with disabilities in institutions, particularly women and girls
with intellectual disabilities, was anormalized experience, Committee Experts highlighted
during the dialogue with India. They denounced violations of the right to life of persons
with disabilities, which included “mercy killings”, in particular of children with disabilities,
and violence in institutions, which included all forms of psychical and sexual violence,
forced treatment, forced contraception, and forced abortion, while significant barriers to

reporting violence existed due to fears of retribution and reprisals.
