1) Derive the equilibrium equation for an element from variational principles.
2) a) Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of finite element method over conventional
method of analyses
b)Find the expression for the stress for one dimensional element of length 'L' subjected to an
axial force q/unit length shown in figure.AE is same throughout. Use RayleighRitz method.
3) a) What are the convergence requirements to be satisfied by the displacement model?
b) Derive the element stiffness matrix for an inclined truss element
